My Belief Statement
I believe in the value of a strong public education system. My commitment to public education comes from my own personal experience along with eighteen years as a Public School Trustee and over twenty-five years of working with young people and with the education system (as a volunteer and more recently as a Trustee).
My first involvement with the Waterloo Region District School Board was through the Chamber of Commerce and an invitation to be involved as a community representative on committees by then Director, Bill Townshend. I served with Bill, Ray Ward and Patty Haskell as a community rep and someone to recruit other community members to serve on committees for the Board.
My core belief is in students. I believe that all young people have the right to the best education that will allow them to meet with success. I believe that all students can learn and succeed. I believe that students need advocates – they need to be respected and valued.
Students are our future - teachers continue to have one of the most important jobs in society. Public education is of vital importance not just to parents and students but also to the broader community. It is crucial to the long term economic, cultural and social health of our community that our education system be the best that it can be. Our students are dynamic leaders today and will be even more concerned and caring leaders as they complete their education.
We owe it to all of the young people of our Region to provide opportunities for student achievement, well being and safety. Each of our students are our current and future leaders who will play vital roles in our society!!
My focus in my work over the past years as one of your public school board trustees has been how can we best serve students and meet the needs of all of our students. By working collaboratively with parents, staff and community, we can find the best solutions so that our students are successful now and in the future. Students must have high school graduation for employment.
Your vote on October 22nd will allow me to continue to represent you, our community, the parents, the caregivers and the students of Kitchener and the Waterloo Region!
Thank you
